Hi All,
I recently started a thread about the volume resetting on a Debian 10, via 11 to 12 upgrade: viewtopic.php?t=157894 and as a result am going to do an install from a live USB because as I found that solved the issue. I was also experiencing lock ups possibly when the screen saver resumed or the monitor was switched off via power saving and issues with nfs but I solved the nfs issue as per the thread.
However, Debian 10 was my first Linux install so I've not gone through the reinstalling process and am concerned that I'll loose all my settings and configuration etc. My /home directory is on a separate (backed up) partition and I know to copy files I've changed in the /etc directory, systemd unit files I've added etc. My firefox and thunderbird configuration/mailboxes are also on /home so it should just be a case of marrying them up again?
I know how to do the basic install and that I'll have to add all the additional programs again but how do I exclude the /home partition from the install? Is this sufficient preparation or have I missed something? With the PC being my daily driver I haven't time for a weeks downtime due to unforeseen issues
Thank you.
