Hardware • ADATA Legend 710 SSD freezing on Debian 12

Hello Debian Community,

I'm new here and quite puzzled looking for advice on solving an odd issue with my new ADATA Evolution 710 SSD.

The PC is a budget PC, yet it was ordered at a place that has an excellent reputation in my country, meaning they tested the hardware before shipping. This PC is was supposed to be a backup PC, so I first thought about running Windows 11. I eventually gave up, overwhelmed by the telemetry and the not so appealing design. So, I installed Debian again, as on my main machine. Been using Debian for a few years now and never looked back.

When I download something, usually at around 1 GB, the download stops, the system freezes and it will repeat this until the download is done. Same when I copy large files. The system will randomly freeze and the download will get stuck. The entire system freezes during this process. The SSD is connected properly. It has been tested - according to the store after the system was prepared. Assuming this is true, I can only guess that this might be caused by Debian 12. Or some BIOS issue? Maybe something I forgot when switching from Windows 11 to Debian 12?

As mentioned. Windows 11 was pre-installed. I somehow messed up deactivating Secure Boot when installing Nvidia-Driver, so I had to start all over again. Removed it, restarted system. Disabled Secure Boot and installed it again. Besides that, I haven't really touched the system yet.

All I can really think of is, that the SSD might have an issue. But it apparently was working fine before being shipped. Do you guys have an idea? You would really make my day/weekend.

Cheers.

Edit: AHCI is enabled in BIOS. BIOS SSD health check says device is healthy.
