Beginners Questions • Portable Apps on Linux

I've been using portableapps.com as a source for Windows portable apps . MS's Win11 "CPU version requirement" prevents my computer from upgrading from Win10 to Win11. Seventeen months from now - NO Win10 support and NO upgrade path. So, I'm now trying to replace Windows with Linux. One component I'm missing is a source of portable apps. Many Windows apps require root access for installation. Portable apps get around this by unzipping and running an archive of an application in a computer directory.

Does Linux offer this? If so is there a repository of such apps like portableapps.com for Windows?

The most critical component is a chrome based browser. In Windows I run several different Chrome and Firefox installations for security segregation purposes.
