Hardware • PS4 controller reporting buttons differently after reinstall

I recently reinstalled Debian while keeping my /home directory. After doing so I found that my PS4 controller works out of the box like before. However, if I assign buttons (e.g., press "Assign" then press the button I want) in an emulator, all the button numbers are different and the triggers are being reported as buttons instead of axes like on my old install.

To give an example, the L2 and R2 triggers were previously reported as "Axis 4+" and "Axis 4-" respectively, but they are now being reported as "Button 4" and "Button 5". Similarly, the right analog stick's axes were reported as "RX" and "RY", but are now "Axis 3" and "Axis 4".

Does anyone know of any libraries I may have unknowingly had on my last install that may have caused this? I'd rather not have to reassign all my buttons in every program and I'd like the L2 and R2 triggers to be an axis instead of digital buttons. In other words, I;m trying to find out how to make it like it was on the old install.
