I upgraded my system from Debian 11 to Debian 12 a week or so ago. Printing stopped, with `lp` reporting `lp: Unauthorized` for any job sent to a printer.
The following site, "Why do lp and lpr return unauthorized?"[1], indicates that a CUPS configuration has to be set to avoid the problem. Specifically, "AuthInfoRequired negotiate" is required. This lets an older printer work as expected. However, a modern, driverless printer still does not, since it is not possible to add that line to the printers.conf file. When CUPS is stopped, the entry for driverless printer disappears. It seems that line has to be present for the specific printer, just to make things difficult.
I would like to retire the older printer and switch to the more modern printer. So, this problem is an issue that I would like resolved as soon as possible.
Any help appreciated!
