Good evening everyone!
Long story short, I have been looking into all options to create a usable SMTP relay so that I can send mail from my HTC HD2 (Windows Mobile 6.5) and other old mail clients, **OUT OF CURIOSTY AND TINKERING** I know its not a safe or recommended thing to do, and Im not going to actually use it. I tried to use windows server and a software called E-mail relay as SMTP relays but they simply didnt send mail through, most likely because of mail servers refusing to touch my setup because of security settings.
Today I followed a guide on how to set up Postfix on Debian (https://www.howtoforge.com/tutorial/con ... ail-relay/) and I managed to get it to send mail through my email, which is awesome, I havent gotten this much positive progress in these two weeks Ive been trying to do this. Unfortunately I got stuck and probably the easiest and most obvious part, but my brain is simply too fried at this point to figure it out.
I simply dont know what to tell the client about the SMTP server. My Debian machines IP or the hostname I gave it (I cannot ping the hostname I gave it because there is no DNS anywhere in my home network that points to it). So I changed the hostname in the config file to the machines IP, and I also added my local network to the configuration, and in theory its setup to allow relaying from the my_networks list.
Now I figured by default it listens on port 25, but I dont know if it requires any authentication, and if so should it be the root account with its password, my user account and password, does it require SSL from the client. I apologise if its obvious or if I can actually easily find it, but for the love of me I cant figure it out right now
Thank you for your time!
