When I first installed Debian on my HP 17 laptop, thumb drives worked as expected. I would plug in the drive, and it would automatically mount and be available. However, today when I tried that, the thumb drive was not recognized, even after a software update and reboot. LSPCI returns the following:
NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINT
sda 8:0 0 931.5G 0 disk
├─sda1 8:1 0 512M 0 part /boot/efi
├─sda2 8:2 0 930.1G 0 part /
└─sda3 8:3 0 977M 0 part [SWAP]
sr0 11:0 1 1024M 0 rom
lsusb returns the following:
Bus 003 Device 005: ID 0bda:b00a Realtek Semiconductor Corp. Realtek Bluetooth 4.2 Adapter
Bus 003 Device 004: ID 046d:c52b Logitech, Inc. Unifying Receiver
Bus 003 Device 003: ID 05c8:03c7 Cheng Uei Precision Industry Co., Ltd (Foxlink) HP TrueVision HD Camera
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 0438:7900 Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. Root Hub

Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
The thumb drive is formatted FAT32 and it mounts properly on my mac mini. I reformatted it this morning, using disk utility. I'm not sure what troubleshooting steps to take next.
