General Questions • [SOFTWARE] Suspend works, but breaks login

Desktop, KDE Plasma 5.27.5, Kernel 6.9, Wayland

systemctl suspend works great.

Upon pressing a key to wake the machine, a large and very helpful message is displayed explaining how to unlock the session from another console.
I have selected suspend / hibernate in KDE's power settings. I have edited /sleep.conf and uncommented the lines telling the machine that it is allowed to sleep, but it doesn't seem
to do it automagically. Screen blanking doesn't work automatically. Because most people have issues with a laptop, I can't find a good explanation as to why these issues occur.

Suspend works manually but breaks login manager. Screen locking works manually.
How can I test automatic suspend? Why does screen blanking / screensaver work after a set time?
How can I resolve the broken login manager upon wake?

Thanks for any guidance on this matter.
