General Questions • consequences of disabling ipv6

Hi,

my machine is normally very stable, but it locked up recently and journalctl showed a lot of these warnings ...

Code:

Jul 20 07:49:51 host NetworkManager[735]: <warn>  [1721418591.4547] platform-linux: do-add-ip6-address[2: ffff::ffff:ffff:ffff:ffff]: failure 13 (Permission denied)Jul 20 07:49:53 host NetworkManager[735]: <warn>  [1721418593.4559] ipv6ll[ffffffffffffffff,ifindex=2]: changed: no IPv6 link local address to retry after Duplicate Address Detection
Googling the errors suggested this could be related to my vpn, and the provider even has instructions on it's help pages for disabling ipv6 on Linux.

I don't use any ipv6 addresses on my home network and I'm just wondering what if any downside there might be to disabling them.

Cheers,
bitrat
