I have been using Windows my whole life, and know it quite well, but I wanted to get into Linux, so I recently decided to dual boot Windows with Debian (with KDE Plasma) after distro hopping for a bit. Everything was smooth at first, but a week or so ago, I enabled backports and installed kernel 6.5. I almost immediately started having an issue where the computer would randomly slow down to the point of being effectively unresponsive. At first, it would recover and become usable again in a relatively short period of time, but over time it started to turn into a hard freeze, with the only way to recover being to hard shutdown by holding the power button.
I thought it might have something to do with the recent update to kernel 6.5 that I performed, so in the grub menu, I selected the option to boot with the 6.1 kernel - this did not solve the issue so I tried booting with kernel 6.1 in recovery mode; this also did not solve the issue. I decided to try to reinstall, as I had just been distro hopping, so it didn't take that long. I formatted my Debian partition using the installer, and did a totally clean install. Upon booting into the new install, the issue is still present, and has continued to get worse over time, to the point that I am only able to use the computer for a couple minutes after booting, and it almost never recovers anymore, requiring a hard shutdown as I mentioned. I have not enabled backports, or anything beyond customizing the desktop (Plasma again). I should also note this issue presents itself on both Wayland and X11, with no apparent difference between them.
I am running the latest version of Debian stable 12.4 with kernel 6.1, dual booted with Windows 11 on my XPS 13 9310 2-in-1. Happy to provide anything else that might be helpful.
