Installing Debian 12 in UEFI mode on an HP ML30, using the full DVD (debian-12.7.0-amd64-DVD-1.iso). Opted for LVM using the whole of the only SSD, with separate partitions for /, /var, /tmp and /home. It's a server, so no desktop, just web and SSH.
I finish the installation with no errors; all looks fine. But it won't boot. There's a "debian" entry in the boot list but it does nothing. Can someone help me find what I've done wrong?
Here are some of the things I've done, all to no avail:
I've been two days at this and my will-to-live meter reads dangerously low ... surely it's not supposed to be this difficult!

Here are some of the things I've done, all to no avail:
- * Installing in MBR mode
* Installing using the netinst image.
* Creating a fresh GPT partition table on the SSD before installing
* Running the "boot-repair" tool off a live USB stick. It failed on "Please enable a repository containing the [grub-efi] packages ..." and I couldn't fix that either.
* Manually restoring GRUB via the chroot method, as documented in the "GrubEFIReinstall" page of the Debian wiki. No errors, but no boot either.
