Beginners Questions • [Installation] Which is best, bootable thumbdrive/or live...

I am new to Debian, but I run a derivative, Linux Mint 21.3 Cinnamon on a MintBox Mini 2 Pro 64-bit computer from the Linux Mint store a few years ago. I am interested in using AllStarLink amateur radio software. It must run on Debian 12. I have no experience with this software, and my attempt to use it on my Linux Mint has gotten me nowhere.

My Linux experience is Ubuntu 6.06+ Gnome2, then Linux Mint 19.1+ Mate and 20.3+ Cinnamon

I will call AllStarLink "ASL" from here on out.

I have a Sandisk 128 GB thumb drive. My idea is to install Debian 12 on a bootable thumb drive, running the ASL software.

I have downloaded the Debian-live-12.7.0-amd64-cinnamon.iso, but I don't know that a Live Session is necessarily the way to go. If possible, I would like to install Debian 12 on this computer, on the thumb drive, with persistence on the thumb drive to handle OS updates and ASL. If I like the results, I can get an external drive when I can afford it.

I use my Linux Mint for everything, but this ASL requires me to use Debian 12. I will place my computer info in a code box below. I want to be sure my computer will run this OS.
Thank you,
—AZM
