General Questions • Cannot access email on laptop

Hi,

Debian Bookworm | Firefox esr 128.4.0

I'm currently having a problem trying to access my gmail account from my laptop. When I enter my password, the system now(!) takes me to a page where I am required to enter a phone number. I don't have one. The laptop did not use to do this. Also, the language used now sometimes changes to Dutch with the language selection drop down list (at the bottom left of the screen/page) changing "of its own volition" to Nederland. This behaviour is also new. Further attempts to sign in take me to a page which states the following.

"Couldn't sign you in

You didn’t provide enough info for Google to be sure that this account is really
yours. Google asks for this info to keep your account secure.
If possible, when signing in:

Use a device where you’ve signed in before
Use a familiar Wi-Fi network, such as at home or work"

I know that I am entering the correct login credentials because when I use these exact same credentials on a different machine they are accepted by the system as being correct. In other words, these same credentials get me into my email account on a different machine.

So, it seems that something has changed on my laptop. Could someone please point me in the direction of where to look to start to fix this ?

Stuart
