I need to vent my frustration: I used a device for months daily and therefore typed in the LUKS pass phrase often more than once a day, but after 3 weeks of holidays it totally vanished from my memory. Normally I am very careful to save my pass phrases in a secure location so that I can look them up in case I really need to. But in this case I seem to have overlooked the LUKS pass phrase which I only added when I re-installed this system last time. (I can vaguely remember that it had some convincing logic to it which was easy for me to reproduce.)
In principle I have the most important stuff in my backup already and on this system I didn't store vital information anyway but over the months I still collected some data I would like access to.
I can't understand how I could have even lost access to my muscle memory in just 3 weeks. The main problem is probably that I would need the correct trigger like the first few chars. Completion from there should be automatic. But without this activation hook I seem to be lost. I already tried endless plausible combinations for two days. (This probably didn't help my muscle memory.)
It seems my pass phrase is reasonably secure ... from me. Image may be NSFW.
