Graphical Environments & Desktops • DPI/Scale issue with Nvidia + QT

In a KDE Plasma desktop environment, when the proprietary Nvidia driver is used, QT-based apps and DE elements are scaled about 50% larger than normal and don't respond to system_settings > display_configuration > global_scale_setting. Non-QT items (e.g. GTK-based apps) remain their normal size and do respond to the global scale setting.

I have two PCs with Nvidia discrete graphics and this problem happens on both of them. One is an HP laptop with the GTX 1660 Ti, the other is a desktop pc with a GTX 10XX.

This happens consistently on a fresh install of Bookworm with the KDE Plasma. I also tested the LXQT desktop environment and get the same result, which suggests this is an issue with QT. All packages are up-to-date from Debian repos. I follow the driver installation instructions on the Debian wiki https://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsDrivers. I also encountered this on a couple of Ubuntu-based distros having the Plasma DE.

Note: A Wayland session can't be used with the Nvidia driver - can't get past the lock screen. X11 is the only option. I'm not bothered by this - just figured it might be relevant info.

Has anyone found a fix or workaround for this? I'm surely not the only person who's encountered this, but I haven't found posts about it. I guess everyone using Nvidia's drivers are on Gnome or XFCE
