I do have an old backup computer (Debian 12 Xfce) with NVIDIA GK208B [GeForce GT 710] installed.

Code:

~$ inxi -FSystem: Host: valley-forge Kernel: 6.1.0-26-amd64 arch: x86_64 bits: 64 Desktop: Xfce v: 4.18.1 Distro: Debian GNU/Linux 12 (bookworm)Machine: Type: Desktop Mobo: ASUSTeK model: PRIME B450-PLUS v: Rev X.0x serial: <superuser required> UEFI: American Megatrends v: 4402 date: 12/13/2023CPU: Info: quad core model: AMD Ryzen 3 1200 bits: 64 type: MCP cache: L2: 2 MiB Speed (MHz): avg: 1862 min/max: 1550/3100 cores: 1: 3339 2: 1380 3: 1350 4: 1380Graphics: Device-1: Conexant Systems CX23887/8 PCIe Broadcast Audio and Video Decoder with 3D Comb driver: cx23885 v: 0.0.4 Device-2: NVIDIA GK208B [GeForce GT 710] driver: nvidia v: 470.256.02 Display: x11 server: X.Org v: 1.21.1.7 driver: X: loaded: nvidia unloaded: fbdev,modesetting,nouveau,vesa gpu: cx23885,nvidia resolution: 1680x1050~60Hz API: OpenGL v: 4.6.0 NVIDIA 470.256.02 renderer: NVIDIA GeForce GT 710/PCIe/SSE2
Switch it on maybe 2 .. 3 time per month and try to keep it up to date. I mainly use synaptic for that task.

Lists Debian 12.8 at the moment

Now I was informed, that running a 'not supported' driver is endangering me and others.

On that information I ran apt-get update, upgrade, dist-upgrade. No message, that this driver is now obsolete. And a nvidia-driver in command line still advises me to use the version 4 driver.

I am a bit puzzled, that for an 'normal' user there seems to be no information about possible risks and that the 'normal' user has to get active by changing the graphic card or switch to nouveau. What did I miss?
