General Questions • [Software] What hypervisor to run? Currently using Xen

I have an old server that I built around 10 years ago and have recently had some time to upgrade it.

There are Virtual machines running on that were first configured way back then, runder under Xen.

More recently, the server has been upgraded to Debian bookwork, and the latest xen-utils package installed. But when I try to create new VM images with xen-create-image I am getting problems installing the kernel. There are also problems with the xen startup files that should start VMs automatically when the machine is reboot. My impression is these scripts might actually be old sysvinit scripts that have never been upgraded.

Xen works, but my impression is it is getting increasingly unmaintained.

I may also be looking into setting up a vGPU with nVidia card in the near future also, and I think that might not be so easy with the debian xen package.

Should I stick with Xen? Or are there more modern packages based off XCP-ng? Or Switch to KVM or something else?
