Beginners Questions • [Software] Question about the legality of out of the box codecs and about WIFI adapter setup

Hello there,

I have a question regarding the legality of:
- the out of the box codecs (gstreamer - specifically those labeled as "ugly" or "bad")
- the procedure to make a WIFI dongle work (Ex. Downloading build-essentials, cloning git repo, running the .sh file from the repo etc.) - Note: The git repo I cloned was from a user called morrownr

Is having those "ugly" and "bad" codecs, as well as the procedure to make the wifi work, illegal in any way?

Sorry for the question, just want to have a good conscience on this.
